To my mind, your definition of tribal (or not)— “…(they only want for their own tribe/people) or they are okay with everybody to have the same as they have …” describes the fundamental, philosophical difference between conservatives and liberals.

Conservatives appear to be terrified of helping others attain more than, or even as much as they have. Doesn’t seem to matter how badly off they are, so long as no one they disapprove of gets a leg up — even if that’s disadvantageous to themselves. Liberals on the other hand …

Like you, I use to argue (largely against organised religion, and then conservative politics), until I learned the relative futility of it.

They say the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. I started taking chomps, but no one ever talks about the fact that there’s a lot more than just one pachyderm :-)
